Ireland Travel Essentials, Eats and More!

You might have seen but my whole family and I just traveled to Ireland for my Brother Michael’s wedding in Galway! It was the most special day and it was so fun to make a family trip out of it! Yes, we had all 9 nieces and nephews attend and all our significant others over the pond!

I think the best thing we did was take a morning flight from Scottsdale to Newark and then connected over to Dublin. This was great because it was technically “night time” so realistically I should have slept on the long flight over, but I didn’t lol - we landed in Dublin and stayed up the whole next day in order to beat the jet lag!

The first day we really just stayed in Dublin, ate lunch at Urban 8, and took the kiddos on walks. We stayed at the Hilton Dublin Kilmainham - we knew we weren’t going to be in Dublin long so it was perfect for the night!

Definitely download FREE NOW for transportation - it’s basically their form of Uber! Since we had so many people we coordinate a bus to get take us from Dublin to Galway!

In Galway we stayed at The Galway Bay Hotel. It was great location as it’s right on the water, but I’m sure there are a lot of great hotels in the area. Since we were there for the wedding we didn’t have a ton of time to explore, but here are the spots I went to for dinners :) and spots we saw!

  • Hyde - so cute, it’s very trendy drinks and good food - it was definitely a healthier place but so good!

  • Kai restaurant - this was highly recommended to us - it’s definitely one of those places you have to google everything on the menu, but the food was good. It’s a super small place and the service was mediocre, so I don’t think you have to go - but it was good!

  • We took a ferry from Galway to the Iran Islands - this was fun, BUT if you get seasick I do not recommend taking the ferry - this was an 8 hour trip where you get to see the islands and once we got to the islands we took a bus tour around which was helpful - then we got back on the ferry to see the Cliffs of Moher - I have done this trip before where I took an 8 hour tour bus to the Cliffs of Moher and if I was going to do it again I would do it that way! The ferry was fun, but I felt like on the bus tour we got more out of it!

From Galway John and I took a day to go to Malahide which was my favorite part of the trip (besides seeing my brother get married). This town was SO cute and apparently is the “Hamptons” of Ireland so someone told me. It’s right on the water, has cute walking paths, all the restaurants, and trendy boutiques! I really wish we had more time here because we just came for a night so ate dinner at Bon Appetite and then stayed The Grand Hotel (this hotel was older, but for the night it was totally fine and they have a really good gym)!
